10 Small Changes That Would Fix Terrible Films

7. Give It An R-Rating - The Expendables 3

The Problem: After the first two Expendables movies were huge financial hits even with their R-rating, Lionsgate got greedy and decided that for The Expendables 3, they'd be releasing it with a PG-13 rating in order to try and recoup even more money.

The result, unsurprisingly, was a tame, massively disappointing action flick, which barely featured a drop of blood throughout its run-time and, ironically enough, flopped at the box office. Whereas the other movies had characters being blown in half with giant guns, EX3 had plenty of shooting, but none of the satisfying gore that fans of the series had come to expect.

Why It Would Fix The Film: The Expendables started off as a throwback to the politically incorrect, savagely violent action films that made Arnold Schwarzenegger and Sylvester Stallone famous in the 1980s and 1990s, and that's the whole appeal. After giving us two movies with all that lovely gore, to remove it and expect higher returns was poor judgment on the part of the studio: they've failed to realise that the core fanbase isn't interested in PG-13, and the younger kids couldn't give a damn about a bunch of 65-year-old guys.

With the R-rating, the film would be instantly more enjoyable (even with its many problems), and Lionsgate would probably have scored a decent box office haul, even with that unfortunate leak 3 weeks ahead of time. Everyone wins.
