10 Small Details You Only Notice Rewatching Happy Death Day

8. Ironic Name?

Happy Death Day
Universal

While the viewers and other characters might know our brave heroine as Tree, her actual name is revealed to be Teresa. So, why does the film insist on calling her such an unusual and unique name?

Well, according to the director, Tree's name is actually a symbolism to her growth as a character. From the beginning of the movie, she's not exactly the most likable freshman at the university. She's selfish, she's mean, she's manipulative and cares very little about how her actions effect others.

By the end of the movie, she does learn the error of her ways and changes for the better. In other words, she grows as a character, much like a tree would grow from a sprout into a beautiful evergreen. Okay, maybe not the most brilliant of metaphors - and you probably didn't think of it during your first viewing of the film.
