10 Small Details You Only Notice Rewatching The Nun
2. Only Irene Can Speak To The Nuns
Upon arriving at the abbey, Father Burke and Sister Irene are told by the Abbess that the Nuns inside have all taken a vow of silence and will be unavailable to talk to. It's later revealed that there are in fact no Nuns present in the building at all, and that Valak has already killed them off by the time the two of them arrive.
However, before that revelation Irene is shown interacting with a fellow Nun named Oana and praying alongside a small army of sisters during the night to keep Valak out. These scenes are obviously designed as a red herring and a way of showing the demon's power within the building, but rewatching the film will reveal one small detail that blows this whole tactic apart: only Irene speaks to any Nuns whilst in Romania.
Besides the Abbess, which is obviously revealed to be a disguise anyway, neither Frenchie or Father Burke ever mentions even seeing a Nun around the place. It's such a glaring detail that escaped so many audience members the first time around, but rewatching it certainly offers a different dimension to things.
