Ed and Lorraine Warren made a big point of telling audiences the power knowing a demon's true name has in The Conjuring 2, with Lorraine's recollection of Valak being the key in her being able to defeat it during the film's finale.

With that being established, it makes sense that one of the first things Father Burke does when attempting to take down the demon is work out what its name is. He does so when reading some ancient books, even going so far as to utter its full name and all of its other addresses out loud to himself.

So if he's worked out the biggest thing needed to stop it, why is it that Father Burke never actually uses Valak's own name against it? He knows Valak for quite some time too, delving deep into the castle's catacombs and running into the demon personally plenty of times.

It's another small detail that probably escaped an audience member's mind the first time around but rewatching the film after seeing just how much hassle the film's heroes go through just stopping the demon probably puts this particular detail under the microscope a little more.

It might have even been enough to stop Frenchie from being possessed by the demon as well.
