10 Songs That Made Iconic Movie Scenes

6. Queen – Who Wants To Live Forever (Highlander)

Queen are known mainly for their stellar discography and awe-inspiring live shows, but don’t forget their involvement in the soundtrack to the Christopher Lambert cult-classic Highlander. While they penned a number of pieces for the big blockbuster, perhaps their most effective was the deeply emotional ‘Who Wants to Live Forever.’

It plays under the scene where Heather dies of old age, passing away in the arms of her husband Connor. Freddie Mercury’s vocal performance really takes this one to another dimension. His uncanny range, mixed with the track’s stirring instrumentals, make ‘Who Wants to Live Forever’ a glorious accompaniment to the scene’s quite emotional themes.

This touching song was written shortly before Mercury died, which makes it all the more profound. Highlander may be a tad on the silly side, but in the one rare moment that it takes itself more seriously, it successfully establishes a more poignant tone with this stunning track as its theme.
