Who can forget this classic scene from the brilliant ‘80s flick Ferris Bueller’s Day Off. The cocky but lovable protagonist finds himself at a parade in downtown Chicago during one part of the movie, and what follows is an infectious rendition of ‘Twist and Shout’ by The Beatles.

He decides to take over proceedings, jumping on a float, and belting the catchy number out like there’s no tomorrow. What makes the sequence so iconic is the sheer energy that it possesses, which is partly down to the fact that it was actually a real parade. Yes, when fans heard that director John Hughes was making a movie, 10,000 of them made their way down to the filming. And this colorful scene was all the better for it.

John Hughes was a huge Beatles fan, and apparently, he listened to The White Album every day for 65 days while they were shooting Ferris Bueller’s Day Off. In the parade scene, that passion shines through thanks to an energetic performance by Matthew Broderick.
