10 Spooky Films About Witchcraft

9. The Blair Witch Project

Blair Witch Project This pick isn't bout traditional witchcraft, but good lord is it spooky. Having watched it when I was much too young and impressionable to be exposed to anything except bunnies and rainbows, The Blair Witch Project will always inexplicably fill me with fear, and I will always remember it with absolute horror. If you're one of the few people who haven't seen it (or, at least, the parody snot scene from Scary Movie 2), then you should know that The Blair Witch Project is an early "found footage" film in which three filmmakers go and stay in supposedly haunted woods looking for the supposedly mythological Blair Witch. Obviously, everything goes horribly wrong in a number of terrifying ways. The Blair Witch Project introduces more earth-bound (and therefore far more creepier) elements of witchcraft as the main antagonist. We never actually get to see the Blair Witch, but events and happenings that occur in the film give strong hints towards witchcraft. The discovery of stick-figures made of twigs strung up in the trees around the protagonists' tent may not seem scary, but the fact that someone (anyone) did such a thing whilst everyone was sleeping is a truly chilling thought.

Fan of Taylor Swift and the Dead Kennedys (a duet I can only dream of). I like dystopias, slasher films, and video games that make me feel things.
