8. Monster House (2006)
Three teens discover that it isn't the elderly neighbour they need to fear but his haunted house in this spooky animated effort from Amblin Entertainment. DJ has suspicions about the home across the street and the miserable old codger who lives there. When the old geezer has a heart attack DJ and his pals think they've nothing else to worry about. Unfortunately for them though the house itself has plans that involve eating all that years trick or treaters like Halloween candy and it's down to them to put a stop to the terrifying Monster House. I first caught Monster House on a flight from Egypt to Manchester and thought it was fantastic. It's suitably scary for younger viewers but has a great things aren't always what they seem ending that is incredibly moving. Sure it may only be a film but it'll make your kids think twice about trick or treating at the local spooky house this year!
