5. Frankenweenie (2012)
You can usually rely on Tim Burton to deliver when it comes to Halloween-tastic movies and Frankenweenie does not disappoint. Based on Mary Shelley's classic novel and Burton's own live action short of the same name Frankenweenie is the tale of a young social outcast who would rather spend his time in his room doing experiments than playing outside with the other kids. One day after his dog Sparky is run over and killed the boy - Victor - decides to re-enact the classic scene from Frankenstein and bring his dog back from the dead. Reanimated corpses are not your usual kiddy fodder but this is Tim Burton at his Gothic finest. There's far more to cry about in Frankenweenie than there is to scream about as the film explores the unwavering bond between a young boy and his dog. Well, his zombie dog that is. And nothing warms our cockles more than a child and his smelly dead dog
