10 Star Wars Anthology Movies That Need To Happen
8. There's Something About Boba
Let’s get one thing straight: Boba Fett is not a character. At least, he isn’t when we see him in George Lucas’s movies. He’s a quiet, guarded anti-hero with a cool gun and a knackered suit of armour, a figure whose helmet design has lot more depth than his on screen personality.
Fans have clamoured for a standalone Boba Fett movie for years, but it’s hard to imagine such a film accomplishing anything more than increased toy sales. Boba Fett’s nature as a bit-part player doesn’t really lend itself to a fully fleshed out film, nor does the fact that the more we learn about him, the lamer he’s probably going to become. That’s exactly what happened with Anakin Skywalker, and it’d be a shame to see it happen to another beloved figure from the Star Wars universe.
Having said that, Boba Fett is a good ensemble player, and could likely bring a lot of intrigue to a Bounty Hunter-centric movie. Maybe a retired Fett is sought out by a group of young, upstart criminals, who need him to help them pull off a major bank heist. Or he appears as the main antagonist in a story about the Galaxy’s criminal underworld; a major threat to an emerging band of rebel spies.
The key factor here is that Fett is not the main protagonist in any of these concepts – he is either a small part of a wider cast of characters, or is the piece’s primary villain. People might think Boba Fett is cool, but asking them to become emotionally invested in his exploits as a man who literally kills people for money is a tall order indeed.
