10 Star Wars Characters Who Only Had One Movie To Shine

1. Darth Maul - The Phantom Menace

When it comes to the strong silent types, Darth Maul ranks close to the top. From that red and black tattooed face to his mastership of the double-bladed lightsaber, Maul was arguably the most popular part of Episode I. In a movie filled with Jar Jar shenanigans and annoying Anakin moments, Maul was one of the few bright points. It would have been nice to get a little more character development out of him, but he served his main purpose as a weapon to be used against the good guys. When we first met Maul, he was the enigmatic apprentice that Darth Sidious sent to track down Queen Amidala and the Jedi. After briefly fighting Qui-Gon on Tatooine, Maul went back to Coruscant to get a pep talk from Darth Sidious before heading to Naboo to oversee the operation. This eventually led to one of the most iconic lightsaber battles of all time. Before the prequel trilogy, the battles emphasized emotion over complicated movies, and there€™s nothing wrong with that. In the prequels, they became more acrobatic and intense, and Maul was a perfect example of this. Unlike Vader who very rigid, Maul was fluid and swift with his lightsaber. Qui-Gon and Obi-Wan were in for a tough fight. Despite our love for the soft-spoken Qui-Gon, it wasn't enough to stop Maul killing him, and Obi-Wan barely survived the battle either. As with many villains, overconfidence proved to be Maul€™s downfall. Calling upon the Force, Obi-Wan propelled himself up, Force-pulled his master€™s lightsaber to his hand and sliced the Sith in half. I€™m shocked that they showed that type of dismemberment in a PG-rated movie, but he definitely had it coming to him. Maul was revived in the Clone Wars animated series with a robotic lower half, but he'll always be remembered as one of the few great things from the prequel trilogy. Like this article?
