10. (Episode IV) Darth Vader Widens The Search
This scene, taking place once Vader has arrived at the first Death Star, is only a quick clip that might not seem like much on the surface, but it could show dimension, and insight towards the lesser characters and the plot if this were edited back into the movie. One thing Star Wars is great for is their universe and lore, especially with the supporting characters. Commander Bast, the imperial officer next to Vader, is someone who can be missed in Episode IV. All Bast is best known for is being the officer who suggested to Grand Moff Tarkin "Hey, maybe the Rebels might win this battle. I have a ship ready just in case." where Tarkin defiantly responds "Evacuate? In our moment of triumph?!" Nice try buddy, maybe next time. Now take this scene into consideration. This is just a simple conversation between Vader and Bast but now it shows some depth and reason behind Bast's suggestion of evacuation and even personal insight of Bast as a commander on the Death Star. While most of the conversation is just filling in the plot with the droids, the last line spoken by Bast got me intrigued. The last line alone says two things: One, Bast doesn't agree or maybe even like Tarkin. And two, he would of done things differently. While the second point is obvious as everyone does things in their own way; the relationship not only with Bast and Tarkin but with all imperial officers and personnel is something that was hardly looked upon throughout the saga but we'll get more into that later.
