The secret apprentice of Darth Vader in the 2008 video game Star Wars: The Force Unleashed, Galen Marek (aka Starkiller) was the son of two Jedi Knights from the Clone Wars. Marek was taken in by Vader after the latter killed his father during the Jedi Purge of Kashyyyk. Trained in the Dark Side, Starkiller was tasked with hunting down a variety of Jedi survivors during the era of the Galactic Empire.

For the game's 2010 sequel, Star Wars: The Force Unleashed II, players take control of a clone of the original Galen Marek, dubbed Subject 1138, created as one of many clones by Darth Vader following the death of the original Marek in the first game. Other clones of Marek are seen throughout the two games, including the ‘Dark Apprentice’. The original Galen Marek was seen to have a major role in the founding of the Rebel Alliance.

While Galen Marek has so far not appeared in the new canon, there have been a variety of nods to the character. Most notably the name of the First Order’s Superweapon being Starkiller Base, taking its name from Vader's codename for Marek. A variety of new canon material set during the time period of the Force Unleashed games keeps being released, and fans are hopeful that Marek will appear in some capacity.
