The shared universe is the current trend that has taken over Hollywood, but with all the opportunities for more detailed storytelling and epic crossovers, there are of course drawbacks. One of the biggest of these is that creators have to trust that fans have watched every bit of content out there.

In spite of how strong they are, Avengers: Infinity War and Avengers: Endgame would mean absolutely nothing to someone who hadn't watched the previous movies, and the same principle applies in Star Wars. This wasn't a problem when there was just a linear saga of movies to watch, but now, with multiple interconnected TV shows going on, it's more difficult for people to keep up.

At the end of The Mandalorian's second season, Grogu left Mando to train with Luke Skywalker. By the beginning of season three however, the two are reunited, with the show offering no explanation as to what happened.

That's because everything was explained in a completely different show - The Book of Boba Fett.

In other words, season three was relying on fans to have watched another show, something that even Katee Sackhoff - who plays Bo Katan in The Mandalorian - didn't do. She told The Big Thing podcast that she had no idea Grogu would be back, with the youngling's return only making sense when she realised what had happened in The Book of Boba Fett.
