10 Star Wars Subplots That Went Literally Nowhere

5. Jar Jar Giving Supreme Powers To Chancellor Palpatine (Attack Of The Clones)

Definite Sith Lord Jar Jar Binks is undoubtedly one of Star Wars' biggest ever mistakes. However, why not make amends with this by making your movie's biggest mistake make the biggest mistake in the whole galaxy?

In what was a move we can only hope every single one of her advisers warned against, when Senator Padme Amidala goes into hiding in Attack of the Clones, she promotes Jar Jar Binks as her representative in the Galatic Senate. We can only assume that Palpatine couldn't believe his luck when he saw this Gungan entrusted with some actual influence in the senate he was trying to manipulate.

With tensions rising to the point of an all-out war, Jar Jar goes in front of the senate and proposes that Chancellor Palpatine be entrusted with emergency powers that will allow him to bypass the Republic and essentially become a pseudo-dictator. Given how Palpatine would continue to hold onto these powers right through to the end of the Clone Wars and use them to create the terrible Empire, it would have been nice to see Jar Jar get the absolute rocketing he deserved for such a blunder.

This subplot is arguably one of the most important in the entire prequel trilogy, however it would have been great to see the ramifications of it for this hapless Gungan.
