10 Stars Who Featured In Horror Movies Before They Were Famous
3. Johnny Depp – A Nightmare on Elm Street (1984)
Back when the Pirates of the Caribbean was only a ride at Disneyland, Johnny Depp got his first film role as protagonist Nancy Thompson’s boyfriend Glen Lantz, in A Nightmare on Elm Street. Depp was offered the role after first choice Charlie Sheen was priced out of the film's budget.
In the film, Glen tries to reason with Nancy that Freddy Kreuger couldn't possibly be real. He finds out he is wrong when he is dragged into his bed by Kreuger before erupting to the ceiling in a shower of blood in a scene that was gorily effective for its time.
Three years later, Depp properly shot to fame with a long-running starring role in the television series 21 Jump Street, before becoming the poster child for weird and alternative films, often directed by Tim Burton.
He has appeared in a few horror films since Elm Street, most notably, Sleepy Hollow and Sweeny Todd’, but is now best known for his drunken Keith Richards impression as Captain Jack Sparrow.
