10 Stars Who ONLY Trusted Themselves To Perform Big Movie Scenes

7. Jason Statham Put His Diving Skills To Good Use - The Meg

Jason Statham has been famously outspoken against action stars who rely excessively on stuntmen and green screen for action sequences, and tends to do the overwhelming majority of his own stunts across his myriad action films.

But The Stath's recent aquatic tentpole The Meg gave him a rare opportunity to showcase a Special Set of Skills many of his fans were actually unaware of - his pro-level diving abilities.

Before he broke into acting, Statham was part of Britain's national diving team and even ended up competing at the 1990 Commonwealth Games, so when the opportunity arose to get his feet wet on a movie set, he naturally insisted on doing it all himself.

When you see Statham heroically diving and being dragged through the water in the film's climactic showdown with the comically oversized shark, that's all him.

Given that it would've been incredibly easy for a double to fill in for him during these strenuous scenes - especially accepting Statham's fairly generic appearance and the water often obscuring his face - props to him for being true to his ethos of doing the heavy lifting himself.
