Last Film Entry: Evil Dead (2013)

What's going on? After Army of Darkness released, fans spent the next two decades waiting for any further entries in Sam Raimi's series that had evolved from outright horror to joyously goofy horror comedy over the course of three films.

Instead of the long-awaited return of Bruce Campbell in the role of Ash, we got a remake that returned to the series' original horror concept, reveling in gore as it introduced new audiences to the franchise but leaving some old fans cold simply because Ash was reduced to an astoundingly brief post-credits cameo.

While rumors swirled in the wake of the reboot's release about a straight-up sequel to it or a follow-up to Army of Darkness, the franchise's future remained unclear until the announcement that Starz was developing Ash vs. Evil Dead, putting Campbell back in the spotlight with Raimi guiding the ship.

Premiering this Halloween, the series is returning to the things fans love most about the series, from the great practical effects work to the absurd humor, and hopefully it will continue for years to come.
