10 Stephen King Stories That Wouldn't Work As Movies
4. Here There Be Tygers
Here There Be Tygers is included in the 1985 collection Skeleton Crew and is another entry that has been produced as a live action short. This story reads like a Stephen King stream of consciousness that he decided to put on paper. It is the story of a third-grade boy named Charles who believes a man-eating tiger is lurking in his elementary school restroom. Not an easy concept to stretch into two hours.
One day, Charles really needs to go to the bathroom and his "mean" teacher Miss Bird embarrasses him. Arriving at the loo, he looks around the corner, and sees a tiger lying on the bathroom floor.
Too afraid to go in, Charles waits at the door. A child named Kenny comes to get him. Charles begins to cry and Kenny leads him in, saying that the tiger was in his head. Charles runs out of the bathroom, and when he forces himself to go back in, he sees the tiger has a torn piece of shirt on its claw. Charles decides to relieve himself in the sink, but the wicked Miss Bird catches him. She goes around the corner to find Kenny, and Charles leaves her for the Tiger to deal with.
