10 Steps To Perfectly Bring Dr. Doom To The MCU
7. Empire State University
This is the point in which Doom's story could start aligning more closely with the comics. After enrolling in Empire State University, Victor meets fellow genius and eventual rival, Reed Richards, instantaneously despising the future Mr. Fantastic.
During the course of his studies, Doom begins to construct a device that is meant to communicate with the dead, specifically his mother Cynthia. While this might not necessarily translate as well to the MCU, given the generally more grounded principles surrounding death, it is key to defining who Victor is. Cynthia would not only serve as a family connection that Doom has since lost, but also as a potential instructor to further his magical knowledge.
Much like in the comics, Richards warns Doom that the device will fail. Ever the arrogant one, Victor activates it nonetheless, and the resulting explosion horribly scars the future villain and gets him expelled from Empire State University.
Seething from a perceived sabotage from Richards (it would in fact be a slighted Ben Grimm instead of Reed Richards that performed the sabotage), this rage would only provide further motivation into Doom's descent into villainy.
Of course, with a student as brilliant and charismatic as Victor Von Doom, it would only be a matter of time before another college quickly offers him admission...
