10 Steps To Perfectly Bring Dr. Doom To The MCU
8. The Early Years
Much of Victor Von Doom's childhood could remain comics faithful. Following Cynthia's death, the Baron calls Werner Von Doom, Victor's father, to heal the ailing Baroness of terminal cancer. However, Werner realizes that the Baron's wife will die, and escapes the night before with his son, shortly before the Baron declares Victor's father to be a murderer. During the escape, Werner succumbs to exposure, but Victor manages to make it back to his camp.
A vengeful Victor combines his vast technological genius with Cynthia's magical instruments to create devices and weapons that successfully keep the Baron at bay. Eventually, his genius attracts the dean of a prominent university: Empire State University.
Showing this part of Von Doom's life is critical in establishing his complexity. He does not desire power simply to be the most powerful, nor is he a generic "evil for the sake of being evil" villain. Rather, Von Doom truly believes he is the only person capable enough to preserve humanity. As Killmonger and Magneto have demonstrated in the past, complexity and human characteristics are all key in crafting memorable, sympathetic comic book villains. On the other hand, simple world domination plots made iconic villains like Apocalypse and Ultron utterly forgettable.
Loki's personality and motives shone through by virtue of a handful of childhood scenes in the first Thor movie. If Doom has an entire movie devoted to him, it could do wonders in making him the next overarching villain for the franchise.
