10 Steps To Perfectly Bring Dr. Doom To The MCU
6. Funded By Tony Stark
Von Doom, with his penchant for engineering impressive weapons from seemingly nothing, is eventually enrolled in Massachusetts Institute of Technology, more commonly known as M.I.T.
Near the end of his tenure, Tony Stark arrives in the midst of his apology tour for, you know, destroying Sokovia and almost obliterating the planet after creating Ultron (more on this later). During the course of this, Stark approves and funds the projects of every M.I.T. student as a part of the September Foundation Grant.
Much has been discussed of this infamous scene in Captain America: Civil War, given the distinct possibility that Iron Man may have inadvertently funded a supervillain. This would be a nice touch in Doom's backstory, giving him another connection to the Avengers, as well as possibly providing a bit of influence over how Doom designs his iconic mask.
With this money, Doom is able to fund a series of impressive superweapons on par with the Chitauri hardware in Spider-Man: Homecoming. Through his genius engineering, Von Doom would become a hit in the world of defense contracting, eventually landing him a lavish contract with his home country of Sokovia. Before that would happen, however, Sokovia would have one more tragedy to survive through.
