Back in 1998 author K.W. Jeter did a trilogy of books known as the Bounty Hunter Wars. These books took place right after the events of Return of the Jedi and covered Boba Fett's escape from the Sarlacc Pit and his return to the galaxy. A lot of the bounty hunters that were glanced at during Empire Strikes Back have prominent roles in the trilogy. Jeter deserves a lot of credit for giving these scum actual character traits and personalities. As impressive as Boba Fett's cult following is, Jeter was able to do the same for the rest of the bounty hunters that appeared on screen for even less time. Although the story takes place after the events of Return of the Jedi, there is a good portion of these books that have flashback events prior to and during the original trilogy. A film that uses the backdrop of the Bounty Hunter Wars could be entertaining in showing a Boba Fett trying to come back after his apparent death while also showing events that took place while the character was in his prime. It could also provide a great doorway for re-introducing characters such as Emperor Palpatine, Darth Vader and even Jabba the Hutt.
