3. Sleepaway Camp
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rIDM6wqUiuM Back to something a bit more simple now, with the classic slasher flick Sleepaway Camp, which came during the boom period for the genre, and delivered one of the most bizarre endings to any movie, horror or otherwise, that I have ever seen. It's mostly standard fare slasher material for the majority of its runtime, but then delivers a violent swerve turn at the end that nobody could have expected. We glimpse a naked Angela (Felissa Rose) clutching one character's severed head while standing naked. It's promptly revealed that Angela is in fact a boy called Peter, who was raised by his mother as a girl because that's what she wanted him to be after the real Angela died in an accident many years ago. The final shot is seared into my mind forever more; "Angela" stands naked before characters Ronnie and Susie, penis on display, making a guttural, manly sound while pulling the most horrifying face I have ever seen, a freeze-frame on which the film ends.
