10 Stupid Decisions Made By Characters In The Alien Franchise

7. Lieutenant Gorman Orders His Marines To Hand In Their Ammo - Aliens

If you were to ever find yourself in a life or death situation similar to the ones the characters of the Alien franchise face, you would hope that you would have someone like Ripley around. Her quick thinking, bravery and determination to survive has saved her life and the life of many others on more than one occasion. But if you end up with someone like Lieutenant Gorman, then you are dead out of luck.

While the marines are searching for the colonists of LV-426, Ripley and Burke inform Gorman that he has led them straight into an atmosphere processor, and that firing their weapons down there could set off a thermonuclear explosion. But instead of pulling the marines out of there, or taking a moment to rethink their plan of approach, he orders the marines to relinquish their ammo.

This decision perfectly demonstrates Gorman’s lack of experience and leadership. Not only does he not fully explain the situation to his marines, but he then orders them to continue ahead with their search for the colonists.

This means that when they are attacked by the Xenomorphs, they are severely ill equipped and suffer many casualties.
