10 Stupid Decisions Made By Saw Characters
9. Hoffman Frames Jigsaw - Saw V
Here's some useful advice, readers. Don't frame a legendary serial killer for your own crime!
2007's Saw IV ended with the fabulous revelation that Detective Mark Hoffman is in fact the mastermind behind his own trap, and will be taking John Kramer's place as Jigsaw.
Unfortunately, 2008's Saw V expands on this development just a little bit too much. The beginning of the film shows us a gruesome pendulum trap orchestrated by "Jigsaw" cutting a man in half. Later we learn that this victim was responsible for the death of Detective Hoffman's sister.
Further backstory reveals that Hoffman orchestrated the trap to avenge his sister's death, framing it as another Jigsaw murder. In hindsight, this may not have been the best decision for the police officer.
Sensing an ingenious way to outsmart the cops, John Kramer seeks out Hoffman, threatening to expose his crime unless he helps him in his murderous endeavors.
So, we learn that Hoffman was a man torn by grief who chose a rather unwise way to cover his tracks. Not the strongest decision, as he's now bound to commit more crimes against his will or face punishment. One can't help but think his life would've been much simpler had he chosen not to frame an infamous and active serial killer.
Hoffman's decision ultimately leads to insanity and his eventual presumed death, which all could've been avoided.
