10 Stupid Decisions Made By Saw Characters

8. Not Working Together - Saw V

2008's Saw V became one of the most derided entries by both critics and audience members - the consensus being that the series was beginning to become repetitive and the trademark "twist" revelations were notably weaker.

Given that Saw V already had an uphill battle it didn't help the movie when after an initial viewing, most audiences branded the characters... rather stupid.

Saw V's big reveal is that all 5 "players" are connected to a fire years before. Some have lost loved ones, some are considered responsible. The twist lets us know that every game played was survivable with 5 participants - no one had to die as all the opposing characters had to do was work together.

This reason for their failure was found to be groan inducing by many. Critics pointed out that by this point Jigsaw's "games" are legendary. Victims had told of their survival via wits and remaining calm. So, why didn't this group of protagonists take just a moment to compose themselves and brainstorm once realizing their situation?

It seems like quite an obvious step, and had been demonstrated in previous movies, yet here, characters opt to scream, yell and curse until there's no time left. It definitely feels like a step backward for character development.

Hi! The first thing you should know about me is that I'm a HUGE horror movie nut. A confirmed addict to the WhatCulture Horror YouTube channel I thought I'd try my luck on their writing team. I'm a wannabe author with one completed manuscript submitted to a few agents. Please cross your fingers for me! I am currently working on my second book. If you wanna talk horror or need any movie recommendations, I'm your man! Give me a follow on Instagram... since there doesn't seem to be a section for that in the "socials" tab @that_horror_nerd
