10 Stupid Decisions Made By Saw Characters
2. Doctor Gordon's Loyalty - Saw 3D
Although interest in the series had cooled considerably, the announcement of Cary Elwes' return to the Saw fold as Doctor Lawrence Gordon sparked renewed curiosity.
The undeniably brave man had not been seen or heard of since he cut off his own foot to escape six years before. Many wondered in the intervening years if he was even alive. Fans hoped Elwes' return would signal the ultimate re-teaming of survivors to take down Jigsaw apprentices and devotees for good.
Unfortunately what we got is... questionable to say the least. Saw 3D presents Gordon as an oddly sinister figure, now walking on a prosthetic foot. The movie plays out largely as a vehicle for Detective Mark Hoffman's madness as he continues to commit his own Jigsaw style murders.
Elwes is largely forgotten until the film's final reveal: Doctor Gordon has been on Jigsaw's side since his escape and delivers the final blow, locking Hoffman in the bathroom where it all began.
Confused? Don't worry... Many franchise fans were too. This character turn just seems... so odd for the good Doctor. Why is he so loyal to the serial killer that not only tried to kill him, but his family as well? Why devote his life to continuing that legacy?
It's a head-scratching choice... A choice that disappointed many and seemed a rather weak grab for one final "shocking" ending.
