1. Owen Lars Tells Luke His Real Name
As explained in Revenge Of The Sith, Owen Lars is appointed to raise Luke Skywalker on Tatooine and keep the son of Anakin Skywalker out of trouble. Unfortunately, A New Hope demonstrates he has no idea how to do this.
Raising Luke on a moisture farm in the middle of nowhere is a good start. But after that, Owen gets it completely, almost impossibly wrong. He tells Luke his last name is Skywalker, an action that both lets everyone know there is a Skywalker at the Lars farm and gains him no benefit of any kind. 'Luke Lars' would have been fine.
Furthermore, Owen tells Luke his father was betrayed and killed by Darth Vader, another agonisingly reckless action that helps absolutely no one. All he achieves is to give young Luke the desire to leave Tatooine and seek his fortune among the stars, the literal opposite of what Lars should want him to do.
Nice one, Lars. You had one job, and you messed it up. Not quite badly enough to deserve being reduced to a charred skeleton, admittedly, but there you go.
