10 Subtle Instances Of Method Acting You Never Even Knew About
5. Al Pacino Actually Tried To Arrest A Truck Driver During The Making Of Serpico
Al Pacino is a lot of things, but a police officer he ain't, which is why this incredibly bizarre incident goes down as one of the weirdest cases of "subtle" method acting to have ever arisen in cinema history. To be totally fair, though, it isn't subtle all it - it's largely unsubtle, given the nature of the events. It is subtle in the sense that it was a singular, isolated incident that very few people know about, however.
It's hardly Day-Lewis becoming Lincoln for the the entire length of production, if you get my drift. Still, sources claim that - during the making of iconic cop flick Serpico - Pacino found himself so immersed in his character that, one day, whilst driving, he pulled over a truck driver and threatened to arrest him for exhaust pollution. I'd just like to reiterate that Al Pacino is not a cop.
Can you actually imagine this happening? Pacino gets out of his car, presumably dressed up like Serpico, waving his prop badge about. It's so totally insane that I can legitimately match it to reality. The big question I'd love to know the answer to, of course: did the truck driver recognise that it was Al Pacino threatening to arrest him?
