10 Subtle Movie Easter Eggs Only Hardcore Fans Will Catch
4. Sonic's Idle Animation - Sonic The Hedgehog
While far from a perfect movie, last year's Sonic the Hedgehog was a shockingly solid video game adaptation, proving far more reverent to the iconic source material than just about anybody ever expected.
One of the more low-key brilliant Easter eggs is one only those who've invested their fair share of time in Sonic games are likely to catch.
When Dr. Robotnik (Jim Carrey) fires a salvo of rockets at Sonic (Ben Schwartz) near the end of the movie, Sonic uses his super-speed to take his time evading the barrage, even tapping his foot impatiently and looking at his imaginary watch while the rockets slowly inch towards him.
This is lifted directly from the video games, which since their inception have included a similar idle animation whenever players leave the game running without pressing a button for more than a few seconds.
Say what you want about the movie's script and human characters, but it has a clear love for the things that made fans fall in love with Sonic in the first place.
