M. Night Shyamalan's deconstruction of the superhero genre is possibly the most hard-hitting hero film on this list, telling the story of two men whose physical abilities exist at opposite ends of the spectrum.
Elijah (Samuel L. Jackson) was born with an illness making his bones incredibly fragile, whilst Bruce Willis' David survives a train crash which killed everyone else unscathed. Elijah urges David to explore his supposed powers, which he does.
Despite the sequel, Glass, being a disappointment, Unbreakable is often looked at as a clever introduction into the idea of superheroes. In a world in which they are looked at as fiction not fact, the hero always finds a way to exist.
