10 Superhero Films That Abused Us Worse Than Fantastic Four

8. Green Lantern

Hello again, Ryan Reynolds. Hopefully his Deadpool movie turns out to be good, because his superhero output so far really hasn't been (see also: Blade Trinity). Perhaps his worst, though, is in 2011's Green Lantern. A transparent attempt by Warner Bros. and DC to replicate the success of Marvel's Iron Man, it cast Reynolds as Hal Jordan, covered him in CGI and quickly killed off any hope of erecting a subsequent cinematic universe on its foundations stone cold dead. In fact, it's because of this film's failure (plus the success of Nolan's Bat trilogy) that Snyder's dark macho Batman V Superman and Man Of Steel are where WB are pinning all their hopes. What they forget, however, is that Green Lantern didn't fail because it tried to be fun, but rather because it was terrible. It looks ugly, miscasts Reynolds (Hal should always be Nathan Fillion) and doesn't use Mark Strong's Sinestro even nearly enough. It could have been worse though - at least it wasn't the comedy Jack Black version we nearly had.
