10 Superhero Movie Performances That Were Totally Oscar-Worthy
1. Michael B. Jordan - Erik Killmonger
While some were quick to pour scorn on Black Panther’s best picture nomination, no one was pointing any fingers at the cast. Chadwick Boseman, Letitia Wright, Sterling K. Brown and Danai Gurira all did a great job, but Michael B. Jordan was undoubtedly best of the lot.
Providing hefty competition for Thanos, Loki and Hela, Erik Killmonger is one of the MCU’s best villains. His portrayal was of a man cocky but not without cause; he was not your stereotypical risible villain. Born of royal blood and raised on the streets, Jordan embodied every inch of this complex character.
He carried generations of Africa on his back; a symbol all the young men left behind by American society. A man with no homeland, not now that it had been robbed from him.
His speech at the movie’s climax that his ancestors knew ‘death was better than bondage’ encapsulated not only his mindset, but that of so many of his less than royal peers.
If the narrative had stayed in South Central, he would have been a shoe-in. Unfortunately, the fact Jordan was barely even considered shows comic book movies still have some way to go.
