8. Thor: Ragnarok - Valkyrie

Before director Takia Waititi's entry into the MCU with Thor: Ragnarok, Valkyrie was portrayed as a tall glamourous blonde not unlike The God of Thunder.

Writer Roy Thomas, and artist John Buscema based the superheroine on the Norse mythology of Brunhilda. Sticking within the confines of previous lore, they decided to retain the attributes of the shield-maiden, so she would be a unique member inside The Defenders.

When Tessa Thompson played the character in Ragnarok, she embodied an apathetic realist who was soiled of duty. Not to mention she looked physically different to previous versions of the character, by having Mexican, and American ancestry, warrior face paint, a shorter stature, and wearing a dark leather tunic, and gloves.

Many fans were delighted to hear Marvel announce Valkyrie as the first LGBTQ hero in the MCU. And now you can enjoy this rendition of the character in paper too with Marvel's Exiles.
