10 Superhero Teams Who Deserve A Movie After Guardians Of The Galaxy
8. The Thunderbolts
The Thunderbolts first appeared in an issue of The Incredible Hulk as just another group of superheroes who were created to fill the gap left by the Avengers, who were absent from the comics at the time. Characters like Atlas, Citizen V and Meteorite proved successful, so the Thunderbolts quickly gained their own series a few months later. The first issue played out as a typical superhero story, until the final page revealed that the Thunderbolts were actually the villainous Masters of Evil in disguise. Baron Zemo realized that by posing as heroes, the team could gain the public's trust and eventually gain access to government secrets which could then be sold to the criminal underworld. Marvel successfully managed to keep the true identity of the Thunderbolts secret right up the books launch and once word got out, the first issue sold out so quickly that a second print came into high demand. Readers were hooked and while the big reveal may have been a clever marketing ploy, it also proved to be a fantastic basis for a new take on the superhero team format. Eventually, some of the Thunderbolts abandoned the original plan and their leader Baron Zemo, realizing that they would rather try to be genuine heroes in their own right. A movie version of the Thunderbolts could follow the same premise and use villains from the cinematic universe further down the line, as releases are planned right up to 2028 and by then, there will be a huge number of characters to choose from. However, it may prove difficult to retain the surprise of the original comic book reveal unless Marvel changes the name of the team in a bid to surprise the fans. However, if this could somehow be achieved, then it would certainly be the greatest twist ever seen in a comic book movie. On a side note, Hawkeye became the groups leader once most of the villains decided to reform and wouldn't it be awesome to see him take on a more active role in the Marvel cinematic universe?
