10 Superhero Teams Who Deserve A Movie After Guardians Of The Galaxy

9. The Boys

The Boys was originally published by DC imprint Wildstorm before moving to Dynamite Entertainment after only six issues. While technically not a superhero team, The Boys live in a world where superheroes exist, but they are out of control, using their abilities to become celebrities and recklessly ignore the law. The Boys act as a super-powered CIA squad who are assembled to contain the superhero threat, confronting vigilantes when they step out of line.

With names like Billy Butcher, Mother's Milk and The Female (of the Species), The Boys are not your regular superhero group and this couldn't be more apparent than in their first story line together, where they blackmail a young superhero team called Teenage Kix. Surveillance reveals that the teen group gained their abilities using a drug developed by the Nazis, with side effects that include horrific mutations and even the ability for prostitutes to recover after having sex with superhumans...

Created by industry legend Garth Ennis, the man also responsible for Preacher and Hitman, The Boys were clearly never going to be your everyday boy scouts by any means. but a film adaptation would have to be rated 18 to do the original comic book series any justice. Rumors of a movie featuring The Boys have circulated ever since 2008, with Adam McKay openly discussing his attempts to make the project a reality, but nothing has been confirmed yet, so it's still hard to say whether Billy Butcher and Mother's Milk will ever hit cinemas.

Whether you enjoyed them or not, Sin City and Watchmen proved that adult comic book properties can be successful on the big screen and a movie adaptation of The Boys would provide a refreshing perspective in the over crowded superhero genre.
