Baron Zemo, in the comics, is one of the biggest and most horrifying villains of the whole comic universe. He's a Nazi, but successful. His MCU role had a lot of pressure riding on it, and he didn't disappoint. Civil War is one of the most devastating films in the entire MCU, and changes the Avengers forever - breaking them by setting them against each other.

But in the grand scheme of things, he seems like nothing more than a bump along the long, winding road to Thanos, the Mad Titan, who snaps existence in half. Except Thanos would never have won if it weren't for Zemo.

We see Captain America's team and Iron Man's team take on Thanos individually, and they almost win. But apart, both of them fall, Thanos wins, and the universe is decimated. And it's just because Zemo decided the Avengers shouldn't exist. If he had not ripped them in half, then Thanos would never have decimated existence. Endgame wouldn't be a movie without Zemo.
