2. Jack Black
The second and more prominent School of Rock vet to make this list, Jack Black has been funny in one of two things that aren't School of Rock. Never really elevating the funny to a point where it cements his place in the comedy stratosphere, Black turned around recently and put out one of the finest performances I have seen in years. Jack Black plays the titular role in Bernie, a small town funeral curator so nice and harmless that when he becomes the suspect in a murder investigation the town actually has a truly tough time believing it. Black transforms in the part, making us forget about the one-note joke his career had been up until that point and making us wish we lived in an alternate universe where Jack Black had turned into a character actor and "fat and physical" fella we've been treated to these last couple decades.
