10 Supposedly Terrible Actors Who Proved They Can Really Act

9. Sarah Silverman

Vanellope Von Schweetz Sarah Silverman is a comedian known to many as the lady you wanted to drown in School of Rock. She was obnoxious, shrill, and incredibly off-putting. Just the worst, really. But then Wreck-It Ralph came out. Sarah lent the same gooey little kid voice she'd been using on Bob's Burgers to the role of Vanellope, an adorable and lonely denizen of the Sugar Rush videogame. Silverman stole the show right out from underneath heavyweight veterans John C. Reilly, Jack McBrayer, and Jane Lynch, and brought a surprising amount of pathos and sympathy to what could have been a silly and obnoxious role. There was a lot of heart there that you wouldn't have seen coming while you fantasized about holding her under until the bubbles stopped.
