4. You Either Love Clapping Or You Hate It (No Inbetween)
You're in a packed auditorium and the film 12 Years A Slave has just come to a powerful, effective close. A collective awe has swept over the audience, profoundly moved by their cinematic experience and, after drying the tears from their eyes, they are roused to applaud the film's tremendous achievement. No less impacted, you join right in with the clapping. Or you don't. You loved the movie (heck, you think it should win Best Picture), but nobody of importance is there to clap for, except the projectionist... and you didn't clap for the guy who tore your ticket or gave you popcorn. This has been an ongoing conversation for film lovers. Some just like to do it for themselves out of their own enthusiasm, others say you never know who might be at the theatre and a lot of people work on one movie. No matter your stance on applauding for movies, if you're a film nerd, you at least have one that you stick by.
