Granted, this reveal would've at least been genuinely surprising if the trailers hadn't spoiled it, but that ultimately would've done little to paper over how much of a shambles it nevertheless was.

In an attempt to shake-up the stagnant Terminator franchise, Genisys decided to take John Connor (Jason Clarke) and reveal mid-film that he's been attacked by Skynet and transformed into a human-cyborg hybrid, the T-3000.

Connor is then tasked with murdering his mother Sarah (Emilia Clarke) and father Kyle (Jai Courtney), in a bold yet misguided attempt to jettison the series' moldy over-reliance on John Connor as a Christ-like saviour figure.

Sure, very little beyond Arnie's performance in the movie really works at all, but between Clarke's flat rendition of Connor, the character's underwhelming cybernetic equivalent and how easily he's eventually defeated, this was a hard swing and a miss all around.
