10 Surprising MCU Phase 4 Decisions No One Saw Coming
4. A Black Widow Movie...Really?
We've known about the Black Widow movie for a while, and it's honestly always been somewhat surprising that Marvel Studios would give the character her own solo adventure. However, considering the fact she was killed off in Avengers: Endgame, it's now even harder to understand why this movie is going to kick off Marvel's Phase 4.
There are certainly a lot interesting ideas on the table (Taskmaster's long overdue MCU introduction, for example), but even setting the film between the events of Captain America: Civil War and Avengers: Infinity War doesn't really help much. After all, the vast majority of fans were hoping a movie like this would delve into her pre-Iron Man 2 days!
Thus far, there's been no indication that will be the case, and it's genuinely very surprising that Marvel Studios is kicking off this post-Endgame era by returning to the past. This first chapter in Phase 4 was the perfect opportunity to set the new status quo for the MCU, but we're now going to have to wait until November's Eternals for that to happen.
