9. Both Were Tested Without Their Powers
In the first Thor movie, Thor was banished to Earth for going against his father Odin's wishes, invading Jotunheim and starting a war between Asgard and the Frost Giants. In being banished, he was also stripped of his powers as a punishment - but this also served as a test of his personality and his worthiness to wield Mjolnir. Of course, Thor came through this test with flying colours - confronting the powerful Destroyer Armour, as controlled by Loki, as it rampaged through a small New Mexico town - and earned the right to wield Mjolnir once more. Similarly - though in very different circumstances - Buffy was tested without her powers in the season three episode "Helpless". The head Watcher, Quentin Travers, insists that Buffy undergo a ruthless rite of passage on her eighteenth birthday known as the Cruciamentum. The test consists of depriving Buffy of her Slayer powers and forcing her to fight a vampire using cunning alone - which, of course, she successfully does.
