10 Surprising Ways Thor & Buffy The Vampire Slayer Mirror Each Other

Mjolnir Olaf As a massive fan of both the Marvel Cinematic Universe and the classic television series Buffy the Vampire Slayer, I recently started to notice some rather bizarre comparisons between the MCU's own Asgardian god of thunder, Thor, and the vampire slaying all-American girl next door, Buffy Summers. I'm not just talking about the fact that they're both super-powered individuals with long, flowing blonde hair and who have both been directed been Joss Whedon, I'm talking about some seriously blatant parallels in their adventures, personalities and lives in general. It got to the point where I noticed enough similarities between the unlikely pairing that I could write a full list of them, so here were are. On that note, here are ten surprising ways that Buffy Summers, the vampire slayer, and the Marvel Cinematic Universe's Thor mirror each other (note that this article contains spoilers for films including the recently released Thor: The Dark World)...

10. Both Have Witty One-Liners

Thor Summers Buffy was renowned for her witty one-liners and snappy comebacks, thanks to the excellent writing of Joss Whedon. Now, it would seem (also, in part, thanks to Joss Whedon), Thor is getting in on the act. It's almost impossible to choose which of Buffy's one-liners to include here but, just as an example, take her conversation with Glory during the final battle of season five as an example. Buffy's been beating Glory with Olaf the Troll's hammer but she loses possession of it and the following piece of dialogue ensues: Glory: "You lost your hammer, sweetcheeks. What're you gonna hit me with now?" *A wrecking ball, as controlled by Xander, smashes in to Glory* Buffy: "Whatever's handy." That kind of dialogue occurred in every episode and Thor's following suit with some crackers of his own: Bruce Banner: "I don't think we should be focusing on Loki. That guy's brain is a bag full of cats. You can smell crazy on him." Thor: "Have a care how you speak! Loki is beyond reason, but he is of Asgard and he is my brother!" Natasha Romanoff: "He killed eighty people in two days." Thor: "He's adopted." That, of course, was part of Joss Whedon's Avengers movie, but Thor is also coming out with witty dialogue in his own movies with no influence from Whedon, such as this diamond from Thor: The Dark World: *A large rock warrior approaches* Thor: "Hello." *The rock warrior roars* Thor: "I accept your surrender." *The rock warrior's team mates laugh* *Thor smashes the rock warrior to pieces in a single hit* Thor: "Anyone else?" It's brilliant and it makes both of them very likeable.
