10 Surprisingly Dark Moments In Laika's Missing Link

6. The Protagonist Is A Sexual Predator

Link reaches out to Frost for assistance in finding the yetis because he's familiar with Frost's reputation. He showcases this by revealing a collection of newspapers that detail Frost's adventures. Many of these, however, seem largely centered on Frost's exploits with multiple women. Frost is referred to as a playboy, with one headline declaring that Frost has been "caught in flagrante with a Russian ballerina."

Frost's reputation as a playboy isn't too damning on its own, but his relationship with Zoe Saldana's Adelina Fortnight doubles down on the creep factor. He keeps pictures of her in his apartment and in his dresser drawer, even though she long ago married his good friend. This same friend has been long dead, but Frost doesn't seem to mourn the loss at all. If anything, he seems resentful toward the departed simply because Adelina chose him.

The predatory aspect comes into play when Adelina speaks mournfully of her husband's death. Frost immediately tries to use her sadness as an excuse to get closer to her. Having feelings for someone who married another man is one thing, but actions are quite another.

When Frost tries to hold Adelina's hand or lean in for a kiss during her time of mourning, he's essentially trying to take advantage of an emotionally damaged widow. The fact that he's been obsessing over this same woman's pictures for years might lead one to wonder if the man with whom we're meant to sympathize isn't more of a stalker than a romantic.
