10 Surprisingly Good Performances In Terrible Comic Book Movies

8. Idris Elba In Ghost Rider 2: Spirit Of Vengeance

Another failed attempt at a Marvel character, Ghost Rider has had two films made in his name and both are forgettable disasters. Spirit of Vengeance is arguably the better of the two but the first Ghost Rider contains no good performances thus making it unworthy of this particular list.

The majority have most likely forgotten that a sequel to Ghost Rider even exists and for that you are one of the lucky ones. The film somehow manages to be both amusing and self-serious and features something no one should ever have to see, Nicholas Cage peeing fire. Really Nicholas Cage's performance is the best but only for its off the wall, Cage-esque insanity.

The more genuine redeeming feature is Idris Elba's French monk Moreau. An enigmatic good guy with a peculiar accent, Elba's work here functions as a strong indicator of his confident leading man qualities as well as his ability to make what could have been an obligatory good-guy part something a little more interesting.

Though he may not do much in the film overall, he manages to ground the absurdity with his enigmatic macho-monk.

It's certainly hammy, but Elba pulls it off with his unquestionable talent and immeasurable levels of cool.
