10 Surprisingly Good Performances In Terrible Comic Book Movies

5. Jim Carrey In Kick-Ass 2

Green Lantern Mark Strong Sinestro
Universal Pictures

Jim Carrey's involvement in Kick-Ass 2 is a strange tale. Having completed the film and no doubt having a blast with the films violent, adult-oriented material Carrey decided to pull out of all publicity and pretty much condemned the film for such content in the aftermath of the tragic Sandy Hook school shootings.

It's evident that Carrey was happy to be in the film at some point because he's so bloody good in it despite the film being a hot pile of garbage. Carrey gets to play a very different character to what we're accustomed to, as Colonel Stars and Stripes is a tough guy with a penchant for bats and testicle chomping dogs.

Strange that it took him so long to realise the violent content really...

The rubber faced actor contorts his face into a fixed, psychopathic snarl and he looks to be having so much fun that it's impossible not to have fun watching him. Shame Carrey seemed to hate it so much because watching him in a rare tough-guy role is a real treat and the only conceivable reason to watch this disappointing sequel.
