10 Surprisingly Good Scenes In Otherwise Terrible Movies

4. Lex Luthor's (Sadly) Truncated Speech - Batman V. Superman: Dawn Of Justice

In what was the most exciting Supreme Court decision of all time (no reporters are allowed to view deliberations, so Zach Snyder really had to use his imagination), there's much to complain about. A lot of the hatred focuses on the ultimate showdown between the two being resolved merely because their mothers' shared the same first name. Others hated the overall dark tone, clearly trying to compete with Marvel's much more lighter touch.

Then there's Jesse Eisenberg's Jolly Rancher-loving take on a young, maniacal Lex Luthor, for which most walked away from with seething hatred. But I beseech you, for a moment, to consider that there was something more to that role - and the performance that went into it.

The scene in question isn't much of a good scene at all, and that may well be due to poor editing. It occurs when Bruce Wayne and Clark Kent first meet, at a soiree Luthor is throwing to donate money to a library. He begins a speech about Gods and monsters - something vague, stammering and borderline incomprehensible.

We don't have time to make heads or tails of it, as the camera is more interested in the same dull Waynetech we'd spent a decade learning about. The speech, in full, may have even given Luthor some basis in motive (something he's lacking in the finished film), creating a villain infinitely more interesting than what is ultimately delivered.
