10 Surprisingly Good Scenes In Otherwise Terrible Movies

3. The Doctor's Death - Alien 3

Alien Resurrection Clones
20th Century Fox

Alien to the third power was stuck in development hell for years, undergoing drafts that followed Michael Biehn's Hicks from the previous film to a wooden monk planet to the alien finally making it to earth.

By the time they finally settled on a weaponless prison planet, the script was still undergoing rewrites and an inexperienced director named David Fincher. The only seeming demand from the studio was Sigourney Weaver's return, given her status as the most popular female action hero.

A brief glimpse over the film's wikipedia page can fill you in on the details, which are vast and confusing, but one thing was made clear: Weaver wanted out, even if that meant leaping into a lake of fire. And while her sacrifice almost makes it worth the wait, another, less-touted moment is equally effective.

After sleeping with the prison doctor (Charles Dance), the alien appears out of nowhere and eviscerates him, meeting Ripley face-to-face. It's a fairly shocking kill, and somewhat effective, given that Dance was set up to be Weaver's counterpart.

Fincher also gave studios the poster-ready shot it desired, as the dog/xenomorph hybrid meets face to face with its prey. No matter which cut of the film you see, Fincher and crew still set out to once again reset the rules of a franchise that started by breaking them.
